Overview
What is AI video telematics?
AI video telematics combines in-vehicle cameras with artificial intelligence that interprets what the cameras see. Instead of recording hours of footage that nobody watches, the system recognises risk as it happens and alerts the driver before it becomes an incident.
The system pairs two cameras with one AI engine. The driver-facing camera (Driver Monitoring System, DMS) tracks eyelid movement, gaze and head position to detect fatigue, drowsiness and distraction, and flags phone use, smoking and seatbelt violations as they occur.
The road-facing camera (Advanced Driver Assistance System, ADAS) adds forward collision warning, tailgating detection and lane departure warning.
When an event occurs, timestamped video and GPS data are captured automatically and stored securely in the cloud, ready for instant retrieval when you need to understand what happened or defend a disputed claim. Over time, the same events reveal patterns: the AI identifies the risky behaviours each driver repeats, so coaching can target specific habits, progress can be tracked, and leaderboards can reward safer driving.
AI video telematics works alongside fleet telematics on the trackloc8 platform. High-data SIMs from TEQ District IoT Connectivity keep dashcams online across borders and carriers.

FAQ
AI Video Telematics questions
What can the AI dashcam detect?
The driver-facing camera detects fatigue and drowsiness, distraction, phone use, smoking and seatbelt violations. The road-facing camera detects collision risk, tailgating and lane departure.
Does the driver get alerted, or only the office?
Both. Alerts are given to the driver in real time so they can correct the risk immediately, and events are logged for your team to review.
How is incident footage stored?
Incident footage is captured automatically with timestamp and GPS data and kept in secure cloud storage, so it can be retrieved quickly for investigations or insurance claims.
How does video telematics help with driver coaching?
AI identifies risky patterns for each driver, so coaching can focus on specific behaviours. Progress tracking and leaderboards help build a safety culture over time.
Do dashcams need a special data plan?
Video uses more data than GPS tracking. TEQ District IoT Connectivity offers high-data, multi-network SIM plans built for video telematics.
