Successful Telematics Installation & Configuration Workshop in Nairobi

On 12th September 2025, TEQ District, in collaboration with Kimii Telematics, successfully co-hosted a Telematics Solutions Installation & Configuration Workshop at Lerruat Hotel, Nairobi West.
The half-day event brought together service providers, technicians, and fleet operators for a hands-on, practical training session designed to deepen technical expertise and showcase the latest innovations in telematics.

Workshop Highlights

  • Mielta® FANTOM BLE Fuel Level Sensor
Presented by Kimii Telematics
Kimii Telematics delivered an in-depth demonstration of the Mielta® FANTOM BLE Sensor, highlighting its advanced capabilities for precision fuel monitoring.
Core Features:
  • Stainless steel capacitive linear sensor for high accuracy and corrosion resistance.
  • ARMAMID plastic housing for durability.
  • Easy installation with a steel flange.
Advanced Capabilities:
  • Self-diagnosis with error codes for fuel anomalies and water ingress.
  • BLE 5.0 for secure, low-energy wireless communication.
  • 7-year battery life, easily replaceable.
  • Built-in accelerometer and 4 MB flash memory for movement detection and data logging.
  • Mobile configurator (Android/iOS) with calibration memory.
New Functionalities Introduced:
  • Dry Calibration – quick setup without dipping sensors into fuel.
The new feature enables basic sensor setup directly from the app (Mielta DM Update v.5.2.049), eliminating the need for traditional methods. Just one tap in the Mielta DM app — and the system automatically sets the required parameters.
How It Works.
1. From the device list, connect to your Mielta® FANTOM sensor via Bluetooth, or to a Mielta® ZOND sensor using the NFC module.
2. Go to Basic Settings and tap Dry Calibration. That’s it!
  1. Enter the tank’s shape and dimensions on the app
  2. Set the sensor parameters
  3. Launch the algorithm with a single tap
  4. Save the configuration on your phone
This innovation promises to redefine how technicians deploy and manage fuel monitoring solutions.
  • Howen AI Camera Solution
Presented by TEQ™
The TEQ Team led a live configuration session showcasing the Howen Hero MC30-01 and Howen Hero ME40-02 dashcams. Using the Howen iTool, participants were guided step-by-step through setup, calibration, and optimization, demonstrating how seamlessly Howen AI cameras can be deployed in fleet operations.
Key Features Highlighted:
  • Driver Monitoring System (DMS): Detects risky behaviors such as yawning, smoking, distraction, phone use, or not wearing a seatbelt.
  • Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS): Monitors surroundings to support safe lane changes, following distance, and collision avoidance.
  • Facial Recognition (FR): Verifies driver identity and monitors activity in real time for accountability.
  • Harsh Event Detection (HA/HB/HC): Records harsh braking, acceleration, or cornering events for analysis and cost reduction.
Installation & Configuration Insights:
Insights from the workshop
  • Proper windshield placement and angle adjustment are critical for ADAS accuracy.
  • The DMS camera must be aligned so the driver’s face is centered for reliable monitoring.
  • Setup through Howen iTool includes Setting up the Device ID, SIM/TF card installation/status, APN/Wi-Fi configuration, DMS Calibration and platform server settings.

  • Devices can be integrated with Howen VSS or third-party platforms (e.g., Wialon, 3Dtracking, WhiteLabel Tracking, Navixy) via H-protocol.
Calibration Demonstrated:
  • DMS Calibration: Position driver face centrally, click calibrate, and the system auto-adjusts.
  • ADAS Calibration: Adjust horizon line and vehicle centerline, then confirm.
  • AI Alarm Settings: Configure alerts (e.g., fatigue, lane departure) and test using the speed simulation feature.
The demonstration reinforced the role of AI-driven video telematics in improving road safety, compliance, and operational visibility.
  • Driver Identification Keypads
Exclusive Market Introduction – TEQ™
As part of the workshop, the TEQ Team unveiled the Driver Identification Keypad — a modern, secure, and convenient alternative to traditional iButton driver ID systems.

Shaping the Future of Telematics

Key Features & Advantages Over iButton:
  • PIN-Based Authentication: Unique codes replace physical tokens.
  • Enhanced Security: Centrally managed PINs prevent unauthorized use.
  • Ease of Management: Assign, revoke, or update driver access instantly.
  • Durability & Reliability: Designed for rugged fleet environments.
  • Cost-Effective: Eliminates replacement costs associated with lost iButtons.
  • Integration Ready: Works with telematics devices for real-time authorization.
Main Capabilities:
  • Supports Driver IDs up to 14 digits (0–9 plus *).
  • Backlit keypad for easy use at night.
  • Audible feedback during PIN entry.
  • Visual and vocal confirmation when Driver ID is transmitted.
  • 1-Wire® iButton operation for data transfer to tracking units.
  • Low power consumption for efficient operation in vehicles.
Supported by Major Hardware Manufacturers – Teltonika, Queclink, Ruptela, Digital Matter
Use Cases Demonstrated:
  • Assigning unique driver codes for secure access.
  • Tracking performance tied to specific drivers.
  • Preventing unauthorized use by blocking ignition without valid authentication.
This keypad provides fleets with a future-ready solution that combines security, efficiency, and accountability.
